ATHENS, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Three persons have been arrested after a 28-year old Bulgarian soccer fan lost his life during a brawl in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki, Greek national news agency AMNA reported on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening. According to police investigation so far, the victim was trying to escape clashes which had broken out between rival soccer club fans.
Under still unclear circumstances he was found in the middle of the street and was hit by a car driven by a 26-year-old Greek woman.
She was arrested facing charges for fleeing the site, abandoning the man.
Two Greeks, aged 24 and 26, were arrested for alleged involvement in the brawl.
Two Bulgarian nationals have also been hospitalized with minor incidents after the scuffles, according to AMNA.
According to local police, the victim was a fan of a soccer club which is affiliated with Thessaloniki's Aris club. He had traveled with other Bulgarian fans for a derby which took place on Saturday between Aris and local club PAOK.
He was among a group of Bulgarian fans which was attacked by a dozen hooded PAOK hooligans, according to information so far.
Greek soccer has suffered from hooliganism for years. Several times in recent years, the Super League was suspended for weeks due to violent incidents. Enditem
