TIRANA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The Albanian Football Federation (AFF) is to provide financial support to all workers engaged in the country's football industry, AFF president Armand Duka announced on Thursday.

Via a video message, Duka noted that this financial package comes at a very difficult time for Albania's football community, with the country on lockdown and all sporting activities canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The AFF's decision to approve a financial package in aid of all staff employed in football follows the denial of a request for compensation by the Albanian government.

On March 30, AFF sent a letter to the government asking for financial support for the entire football community in Albania through a compensation package.

According to the decision, the federation will provide all workers with financial assistance of 30,000 Albanian lek (around 285 U.S. dollars) for a period of one month from March 15 to April 15.

Duka declared that this payment will be repeated in case sporting activities continue to be banned after April 15, and called on Albania's entire football community to strictly follow the instructions of health authorities.

"I am confident that together we will win this 'game' against this dangerous opponent," Duka said.

In his message, Duka also expressed condolences to the family of Albania's former national boxing team coach Skender Kurti, who lost his life on April 5 after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

As of Thursday, Albania's health authorities have reported a total of 409 confirmed coronavirus cases in the country, with 165 recoveries and 23 deaths. Enditem
