KUWAIT CITY, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait University launched on Monday its first international online virtual conference on history of pandemics.
The two-day conference, entitled "The History of Pandemics," is attended by experts from 13 countries.
During his opening speech, Fayez Al-Dhafiri, acting director of Kuwait University, said epidemics and natural disasters are challenges facing the world in history and countries must draw on their experience.
Al-Dhafiri also highlighted the importance of scientific papers which can provide recommendations on how to confront the current novel coronavirus pandemic.
For her part, Suad Abdel Wahab, dean of the college of arts of the university, said that the conference comes in light of the role of the university in performing the scientific and cultural duty towards Kuwait with the aim of enriching knowledge.
She pointed out that the novel coronavirus pandemic has led to the suspension of various educational institutions around the world, and Kuwait University was one of the first university to launch an online conference with international participation.
The conference activities will focus on the theme of epidemics in Egypt, ancient Near East, and the era of Greeks and Romans in an attempt to monitor the diseases that have spread in those places and ways to confront the pandemic and its impact on society. Enditem
