ULAN BATOR, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has approved 53 million U.S. dollars to help Mongolia improve heating services and support sustainable livelihoods, the bank's country office in Mongolia said Saturday.
The office told Xinhua that the financing will be used to improve heating services in Ulan Bator and scale up activities to improve the planning and delivery of priority local infrastructure investments in the country's all 330 soums (administrative subdivisions) under a sustainable livelihoods project.
"The World Bank has been actively supporting the modernization of heating capabilities in urban areas to help develop a reliable and sustainable provision of central heating services and to reduce emissions in ger areas," said Andrei Mikhnev, World Bank country manager for Mongolia.
He expressed confidence that the financing will also scale up investments in needed infrastructure with increased emphasis on public participation, transparency, and accountability at soum level. Enditem
