YANGON, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities have planned to export 150,000 tons of rice in May, an official of Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) told Xinhua on Thursday.

Myanmar's Commerce Ministry and the MRF have set the export quota of 100,000 tons of rice through sea routes and 50,000 tons of rice through border gates next month, according to a recent MRF's release.

The setting of quota is only applied to rice, broken rice and sticky rice, but not to parboiled rice export.

Also, negotiations with some ASEAN and neighbouring countries are underway to sell rice through government-to-government (G to G) plan, the release said.

"About 112 companies will operate the maritime rice export next month while about 200 companies will handle rice export through border gates," Dr. Soe Tun, a member of the central executive committee of MRF told Xinhua.

It was learnt that the export volume for each company will be proportioned on 60 percent of their average monthly export volume in the past 30 months and better qualified companies will get more quotas.

"The rice exporters need to sell 10 percent of total export volume to the government as the country's reserved rice," he said.

Meanwhile, Myanmar has set a target to export 2.5 million tons of rice in the present fiscal year 2019-2020 which will end on Sept. 30, 2020.

So far, the country has exported over 1.64 million tons of rice and broken rice as of March 27 this fiscal year, according to latest figures released by the federation. Enditem
