MACAO, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The business of restaurants and retailers in Macao remained subdued in March under the ongoing influence of COVID-19, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Wednesday.
The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that 97 percent of the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments recorded a year-on-year decline in receipts in March, representing a slight decrease of 1 percentage point from February.
Meanwhile, only 2 percent of the interviewed establishments reported a year-on-year rise in receipts in March, the same as that of February.
As regards retail trade, 87 percent of the interviewed retailers registered a year-on-year sales decrease in March, a rise of 3 percentage points over the preceding month.
Meanwhile, the share of interviewed retailers recording a year-on-year sales rise in March fell by 3 percentage points from that of February to 10 percent.
The interviewed restaurants and similar establishments as well as retailers generally held a bleak outlook for their business in April, with 56 percent of the interviewed restaurants and similar establishments and 62 percent of the retailers expecting a year-on-year decline of 50 percent or more in receipts.
