MAPUTO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique registered in the last 24 hours another 30 COVID-19 cases and one more death, said the country's Director-General of the National Institute of Health (INS), Ilesh Jani on Sunday.

The deceased was an 84-year-old man from the province of Nampula, who was tested on June 6, but was not hospitalized due to mild symptoms of respiratory infections, according to Jani, when speaking at the daily press conference on data update of the pandemic in Maputo.

"The cumulative number of positive cases has gone up from 553 to 583," he said, with no new recoveries in the past 24 hours.

The health official said that among the 30 cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours, 29 are of Mozambican nationality and one of Thailand nationality.

A total of 15 of the new cases are male and 15 are females, all of whom had mild to moderate symptoms, and the tracing work of their contacts is underway, he said.

Jani stressed that medical teams were strengthened in Nampula to help minimize cases of intense community transmission, and a fixed testing laboratory in the province will be operational in August.

The health official warned that "there is a very relaxed compliance with level 3 measures," urging people to strictly observe with the preventive measures. Enditem
