Mongolian government to continue economic support for vulnerable groups amid pandemic

ULAN BATOR, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian government has decided to continue its economic support of vulnerable groups until the end of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country's Finance Minister Chimed Khurelbaatar said Wednesday.
The measures were originally planned to end in October, but have been extended until the end of this year "by making some amendments to the 2020 general budget of Mongolia," Khurelbaatar said during a news conference.
Notably, a measure to increase the monthly allowance of 30,000 Mongolian tugriks (10.5 U.S. dollars) for all children up to the age of 18 to 100,000 tugriks will continue until the end of this year, he said.
A total of 1.25 million children are expected to benefit from the measure, according to the minister.
In addition, monthly allowances of 188,000 tugriks for orphans, single parents with more than four children, and disabled people will be increased by 100,000 tugriks until the end of this year.
As of Wednesday, Mongolia has reported a total of 293 COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, with no local transmissions or deaths reported so far. Enditem
