JAKARTA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed in a landslide in Sorong city in the Indonesian province of West Papua, officials said Thursday.

The National Agency for Disaster Management's spokesman Raditya Jati said the landslide was caused by heavy rains which occurred on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. local time, hitting several villages in three districts in the city.

The agency has warned residents, especially those living in landslide-prone areas, of the risk of landslides due to high-intensity rainfalls.

Floods and landslides frequently occur in Indonesia during heavy rains. Enditem
