BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan reported 96 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, taking the national tally to 87,239.
The Republican Headquarters for Combating COVID-19 also reported 53 more recoveries and two more deaths, bringing the total recoveries to 84,084 and the death toll to 1,487.

SEOUL -- South Korea's economy is still faced with weak domestic demand on the back of the continued COVID-19 pandemic, a government report said Friday.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said in its monthly economic report, called Green Book, that the South Korean economy recently saw an improved export and investment as well as the slower fall in employment.

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Friday reported 100 new COVID-19 cases, mostly domestic, and one more death, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of Friday's new cases, 96 were domestic while four were imported, CCSA's assistant spokeswoman Panprapa Yongtrakul told a press conference.

SYDNEY -- The Controller of COVID-19 National Pandemic Response and Police Commissioner of Papua New Guinea David Manning announced a couple of new control measures on Thursday as the Pacific Island country's COVID-19 cases continue to grow.
The measures, which will take effect from March 22, involve international travel, domestic travel, public transport, provincial cooperation, burial of deceased people, customs duties, testing measures, business and social, and COVID-19 vaccination test and trials.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia registered 160 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Friday.
The latest cases were detected in the country's capital Ulan Bator, the country's hardest hit region, the NCCD said in a statement.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency authorization for the use of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, FDA Director-General Enrique Domingo said on Friday.
"The known and potential benefits of the Gamaleya Sputnik V vaccine, when used to prevent COVID-19, outweigh the known and potential risks of the said vaccine as of date," Domingo said in an online media briefing.
