KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, April 14 (Xinhua) -- A police officer and two police constables were shot dead Wednesday by a man in Afghan police uniform in Kunduz, a province in northern Afghanistan, the latest in a string of so-called insider attacks, local police confirmed.
The incident occurred when a man in Afghan National Police uniform opened fire on fellow colleagues who were in the line of duty in Police District (PD) 5 of the provincial capital Kunduz city roughly at midday, a provincial police told Xinhua anonymously.
The shooter took a police vehicle and fled the scene presumably joining Taliban militants, the source said.
The killed police officer served as the deputy district police chief for PD 5 police station, according to the source.
Meanwhile, local government spokesman Esmatullah Muradi told Xinhua that the local police have launched an investigation into the case, adding details will be shared with the media soon.
Some similar incidents happened in the past. In January, an insider attack killed 12 pro-government militiamen, known as Public Uprising Forces, in western Herat province. Enditem
