SEOUL, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korean banks' loan delinquency ratio rose slightly in August after the policy rate hike, financial watchdog data showed Thursday.

The ratio of delinquent bank loans came in at 0.28 percent of the total as of end-August, up 0.01 percentage points from a month earlier, according to the Financial Supervisory Service.

The delinquency ratio for bank loans to households added 0.01 percentage points to 0.19 percent in the cited month.

The ratio for mortgage loans was unchanged at 0.11 percent, but the reading for credit loans gained 0.03 percentage points to 0.36 percent.

The ratio of delinquent bank loans to companies increased 0.01 percentage points to 0.36 percent in the month.

The higher delinquency ratio came after the central bank raised its benchmark interest rate from an all-time low of 0.50 percent to 0.75 percent in late August.

Despite the rate hike, the policy rate remained at a near-record-low level, helping the loan delinquency ratio remain relatively low. Enditem
