HANOI, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese businesses exported over 37.1 million medical masks in October, doubling the amount from September, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Medical mask export has been surging in the past three months after tumbling between May and July when Vietnam was the hardest hit by the fourth wave of COVID-19 infection, the department announced in its latest report released Monday.

In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam sold overseas more than 359.3 million medical masks. Last year, the country exported nearly 1.4 billion masks, according to customs data.

In late April 2020, the Vietnamese government officially resumed the normal export of medical masks without a cap on the export volume, as long as domestic demand is met, different from earlier when the country only allowed the export for humanitarian aid or international assistance purposes.
