GABORONE, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's Ministry of Health and Wellness on Thursday launched a national strategy for nursing and midwifery for 2020-2024 in an effort to deliver quality healthcare in the country.
The strategy, centering on areas including education and training, regulation, leadership and research, is expected to create a roadmap that identifies challenges and opportunities for healthcare direction in Botswana, Health Minister Edwin Dikoloti said while addressing the launching ceremony of the strategy.
Through the plan, the nursing and midwifery professions will transform and re-focus their core business of providing evidence-based interventions, which are not only relevant to their clients, but also in sync with modern day nursing and healthcare in general, the minister said.
Josephine Namboze, WHO Representative in Botswana, pointed out that investing in leadership skills development for nurses and midwives should be prioritized in order to realize the vision of the strategy for Botswana.
"Midwives and nurses can gain leadership skills through development programs that improve their technical, administrative, and management skills," she said. Enditem
