COLOMBO, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's health experts have warned of a dengue outbreak as over 4,000 cases were reported in November alone, local media reported here Thursday.

According to official figures, a total of 4,561 dengue cases were reported in November, the highest in the past 20 months.

Dr. Shilanthi Seneviratne from the National Dengue Control Unit was quoted by the local media Daily Mirror as saying that a dramatic increase in dengue cases was observed due to the incessant rains across the country within the last two months.

"We as the Dengue Control Unit have been monitoring the situation and taking relevant measures like prevention programs and educating the people so that the damage could be mitigated," Dr. Seneviratne said.

"People should also be alert of the fact that some symptoms like fever and muscle pain can be seen in both COVID-19 and dengue patients as well," she added.

Dr. Seneviratne urged people to immediately seek medical advice before drawing to their own conclusions.

According to official figures, a considerable number of cases had been detected from the capital city Colombo and Batticaloa in the Eastern Province.

Medical experts urged the public to seek immediate medical service if they suffer high fever, uncontrolled vomiting, abdominal pain, or dizziness among other symptoms of dengue fever. Enditem
