LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday released its nomination shortlists for the 94th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, in 10 categories.

Among the eligible films from some 90 countries and regions, 15 will advance to the next round of voting in the International Feature Film category.

An international feature film is defined as a feature-length motion picture (more than 40 minutes) produced outside the United States with a predominantly non-English dialogue track. Japan's "Drive My Car," Denmark's "Flee," Iran's "A Hero" and Italy's "The Hand of God" are considered to be frontrunners in the category this year.

There are 15 films on the shortlists for Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, and Live Action Short Film, respectively. Ten films will advance in the Makeup and Hairstyling category, the Sound category, and the Visual Effects category, respectively.

Nominations for the 94th Academy Awards will be announced on Feb. 8, 2022. The awards ceremony is set for March 27, 2022, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood in the western U.S. state of California. Enditem
