HANOI -- The fifth plenary session of the 13th Communist Party of the Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) opened in Hanoi Wednesday, with a number of major issues to be discussed, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Chaired by CPVCC General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the session was scheduled to discuss land policies and laws, agriculture and rural development, the development of a collective economy, and anti-corruption work, among other issues. (Vietnam-Communist Party-Session)

KATHMANDU -- At least five people were killed and 19 others injured on Wednesday when a jeep collided with a minibus in Nepal's Kavrepalanchowk district.

The jeep with 13 passengers onboard was heading toward Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, when it ran into the minibus carrying 26 Indian nationals, local police said, noting all the injured, with one in critical condition, were receiving treatment at a local hospital. (Nepal-Traffic Accident-Deaths)

HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Wednesday appealed to elderly people again to undergo frequent COVID-19 testing in light of the gradual relaxation of social distancing measures and the increase in social activities.

The government has started distributing free rapid antigen test (RAT) kits to the elderly aged 60 and above since April 19 so as to encourage them to undergo voluntary RAT testing from time to time. As of May 2, close to 2 million RAT kits were distributed by the government through relevant channels. (Hong Kong-COVID-19-Elderly)

NEW DELHI -- India's federal government in its newly released the Civil Registration System (CRS) report 2020 has stated that the country recorded an increase of 6.2 percent in the death rate in the COVID-19 pandemic year.

According to the report released on Tuesday in case of registered deaths, the number has increased from 7.64 million in 2019 to 8.12 million in 2020, which is an increase of 6.2 percent. (India-COVID-19-Death Rate) Enditem
