HANOI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported nearly 5.5 billion U.S. dollars worth of wood and wood products in the first four months of this year, up 4.5 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Friday.
In April alone, the country raked in about 1.5 billion U.S. dollars from exporting wood and wood products, posting a 5.7-percent year-on-year growth.
According to the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association, the demand for products such as wooden frame chairs, and wooden furniture for living rooms and dining rooms and bedrooms, has been increasing, which is an advantage for Vietnam.
The association estimated that Vietnam's export of wood and wood products will increase 5 percent to 8 percent year on year in the first half of 2022.
In 2021, Vietnam reaped over 14.8 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, which increased 19.7 percent year on year and accounted for 4.4 percent of the country's total export revenue, with China, Japan and the United States among the major markets.
Between January and April this year, Vietnam also spent 968 million dollars importing wood and wood products, down 2.6 percent year on year. Enditem
