Man arrested for trafficking heroin in northern Vietnam

HANOI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Police of northern Vietnam's Lai Chau province have arrested a local man for trafficking 12 cakes of heroin, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old man, who is from Lai Chau's Sin Ho district, was caught red-handed on Tuesday afternoon.

Since early May, Lai Chau's police have arrested seven drug traffickers and seized 15 cakes of heroin and nearly 15,000 pills of synthetic drugs, the news agency reported.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Enditem
