MOSCOW, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Russia's flagship Sukhoi and MiG aviation companies have merged into the PJSC United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a major state-owned aerospace and defense conglomerate, the UAC announced Wednesday.

The new PJSC UAC will directly manage production and design bureaus, implement aviation programs, and develop advanced equipment, the company said in a statement.

The Sukhoi and MiG brands will remain and existing design schools will continue to develop, it added.

The UAC was created in 2006 following a presidential decree to preserve human, scientific and production resources that were possessed by scattered aircraft producers.

The merger was approved by the UAC board in November 2021 and supported by shareholders of the three companies in January 2022. Enditem
