TEHRAN, July 7 (Xinhua) -- A top Iranian security official said on Thursday that the expansion of collective cooperation without foreign powers' interference is one of the most urgent needs of the region for ensuring security.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, reported the semi-official Mehr News Agency.
Shamkhani underlined the necessity of resolving differences among regional countries through dialogue and refraining from violence, citing that any new tension will be used as a pretext for increasing presence and interference by foreign powers.
In an address to reporters upon arrival in Yerevan on Thursday morning, Shamkhani underlined the importance of ensuring peace and stability in the region through intra-regional cooperation.
Later in the day, in a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Armen Grigoryan, Shamkhani said Iran is ready to help establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus, reported the Iranian official news agency IRNA. Enditem
