HANOI, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported more than 8.5 billion U.S. dollars' worth of wood and wood products in the first six months of this year, up 3.4 percent year on year, according to the General Statistics Office on Friday.
This is lower than the previously estimated 5 percent to 8 percent from the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association.
Due to the rising price of materials caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict along with rising inflation in many countries, the growth of Vietnam's wood export slowed down in the first half of this year, according to the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
In 2021, Vietnam reaped over 14.8 billion dollars from exporting wood and wood products, which increased 19.7 percent year on year and accounted for 4.4 percent of the country's total export revenue, with China, Japan and the United States among the major markets.
Between January and June this year, Vietnam also spent more than 1.6 billion dollars importing wood and wood products, up 3.7 percent year on year. Enditem
