VIENTIANE, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- A total of 58 people were killed and 732 others injured in road accidents across Laos in August, according to the latest report from the Lao Ministry of Public Security on Wednesday.
According to the report issued by the traffic police department under the ministry, the casualties came along with 798 vehicles damaged in 438 road accidents recorded nationwide in August.
Lao capital Vientiane saw the highest number of road accidents, followed by Savannakhet and Champasak provinces.
The cost of the damage incurred was estimated at over 5.8 billion Lao kip (about 369,000 U.S. dollars).
The major causes of road accidents in Laos are speeding, drunk driving, drivers' suddenly changing direction, and general violation of traffic regulations, according to the report. Enditem
