RAMALLAH, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye called on Thursday the international community to act immediately to protect the two-state solution, the prime minister's office said in a statement.

Ishtaye made the remarks when meeting with Luxembourg's Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs Franz Fayot in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

During the meeting, Ishtaye praised Luxembourg's firm position on the two-state solution and respect for international law and legitimacy, as well as the financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He called on Luxembourg to open a representative diplomatic office in Palestine, which would contribute to cooperation at the highest levels.

For his part, Fayot said that his country's government had approved new financial support for UNRWA worth 12.3 million U.S. dollars for three years.

Fayot added that Luxembourg's support for development projects in Palestine amounted to 7 million U.S. dollars annually, which were distributed over the sectors of health, education, agriculture, and vocational training. Enditem
