WELLINGTON, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand confirmed nine new community transmission cases of monkeypox on Wednesday, bringing the total case number in the country to 20.
There are seven new cases in Auckland and two in Wellington, said a Ministry of Health statement.
All of the new cases have been identified as community transmissions where the disease has been transmitted within New Zealand, it said.
This brings the total to 20 confirmed cases in the country, including both active and recovered. Among them, nine cases were acquired overseas and 11 were identified as community transmission, the ministry said, adding the general risk remains very low. Enditem
