YAOUNDE, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Cameroon's war-torn English-speaking region of Southwest said on Friday that the army has killed a "dreaded and notorious" separatist commander in the region.
Chamberlain Ntou'ou Ndong, a senior government official of the division, said the commander, who called himself "General Gideon," was killed by troops along the Kumba-Buea highway on Thursday.
"He was notorious for his terrorist activities and dreaded by the population. This is his end. The population needs to continue collaborating with the army to fish out more terrorists," Ndong told reporters.
The army has been clashing with separatist fighters since 2017 in Cameroon's Anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest, where separatists want to create an independent nation. Enditem
