JERUSALEM, June 5 (Xinhua) --Germany's national team secured a 78-63 away victory over Israel on Monday evening in a warm-up game for the 2023 Women's EuroBasket tournament set to commence on June 15.
This game marked the second face-off between the two teams within 24 hours, following Israel's 73-69 win on Sunday. Both matches took place at the Shlomo Group Arena in Tel Aviv.
Germany gained an early lead, with a 25-16 score at the close of the first quarter. By halftime, with the contributions of Luisa Geiselsoder and Emily Bessoir, they had extended their lead to 44-23.
Jennie Simms, with her valuable points and assists, helped Israel narrow the gap to 43-59 by the end of the third quarter, and further to 52-63 in the 33rd minute. However, Lina Sontag's crucial points sealed the win for Germany.
Geiselsoder emerged as the game's top scorer with 20 points for Germany, while Guelich and Alexandra Wilke contributed an additional 15 points each. Simms led Israel's scoring with 19 points.
The match served as Israel's final warm-up before the EuroBasket tournament, whereas Germany is slated to play against Italy in Pordenone on June 11.
The Women's EuroBasket, for which 16 teams have qualified, will be co-hosted by Tel Aviv and Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana. Each city will accommodate two four-team groups. Enditem
