CAIRO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and 42 others were wounded on Monday when a microbus and a pickup truck collided in southern Egypt, the government of Aswan province said in a statement.

The minibus was transporting some family members to attend a wedding when it collided with the truck carrying laborers on the Edfu-Marsa Alam road in Aswan, said the statement published on the government's Facebook page.

Two children and a woman were killed in the accident, while the wounded were transferred to the nearest government hospital, said the statement.

Six people are seriously wounded and undergoing neurosurgeries while others suffer fractions and bruises, it added.

Road accidents are common in Egypt because of poorly-maintained road infrastructure and loosely-applied traffic regulations.

Over the past few years, Egypt has been upgrading its road network by establishing new roads and bridges to reduce traffic accidents. Enditem
