HELSINKI, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Wille Rydman was appointed as Finland's new minister of economic affairs on Thursday, replacing Vilhelm Junnila in the post.

Junnila, a member of the nationalist Finns Party, resigned from his post last Friday, merely ten days after the country's new government was formed by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

The controversy surrounding Junnila emerged in late June following revelations about his past statements and alleged links with far-right groups.

Although he narrowly survived a confidence vote in Parliament on June 28 initiated by three opposition parties, Junnila said that it was "impossible for me to continue as a minister in a satisfactory way."

Born in 1986, Rydman is currently serving his third term in Finland's Parliament. He will serve as minister for the first two years of the government's term, after which he will be succeeded by another Finns Party member of Parliament for the next two years. Enditem
