JAKARTA -- Four fishermen have gone missing after their boats were hit by huge waves and sank in waters off Indonesia's East Java province, according to an official of the local search and rescue agency on Tuesday.

TOKYO -- Phishing scams in Japan in the first half (H1) of 2023 resulted in unauthorized money transfers totaling around 3 billion yen (about 21 million U.S. dollars), the National Police Agency (NPA) said Tuesday.
A record 2,322 scams mainly involving phishing this year have caused financial loss nearing the record high of 3.07 billion yen (about 21.4 million U.S. dollars) registered in 2015, according to a report by the NPA. (Indonesia-Missing Fishermen)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the country's federal government will step down on Aug. 9, following which a caretaker setup will take charge till the next general elections.
Sharif made the remarks when he paid a farewell visit to the Pakistan Army's general headquarters in Rawalpindi, a neighboring city of the capital Islamabad, and met relatives of the soldiers who got killed or injured during terrorist incidents in the country.
The government step-down will come as a result of the dissolution of the National Assembly or the lower house of the parliament which directly elects the federal government. The National Assembly will be dissolved on Aug. 9, three days ahead of the completion of its five-year term on Aug. 12, according to the prime minister. (Pakistan-PM-Government)

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday pledged to keep governing system free of corruption and called on citizens to strengthen trust in the authority while delivering his National Day message.

HANOI -- Three more deaths due to landslides and flooding triggered by prolonged heavy rains in northern Vietnam have been reported, bringing the total death toll to 11 between Aug. 2 to 7, according to Vietnam's National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Tuesday.
The new victims were found in Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces on Aug. 6 and 7, said the committee, adding that two more injuries are reported in Lao Cai and Cao Bang provinces, bringing the total of injured people to five. (Vietnam-Landslides-Floods) Enditem
