MUSCAT, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The high-tech cooperation between China and Oman will contribute to Oman's digital transformation, said Ahmed Al Maashri, head of the Department of Electrical And Computer Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman.

The SQU has recently teamed up with China's STAR.VISION, an AI satellite company based in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou to send Oman's first AI model into space, integrating sophisticated AI algorithms with satellite technology.

"This initiative empowers researchers to upload AI algorithms onto Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites equipped with high-resolution imaging sensors and robust computing hardware," said Al Maashri.

The expert said the innovative approach "facilitates on-satellite image processing, minimizing communication delays and yielding near-real-time results."

The expert noted that the fusion of deep learning algorithms with LEO satellites offers an unparalleled opportunity.

"We can think of hundreds of applications that can benefit from such technology," he said, listing examples such as weather forecasting and border protection applications.

Al Maashri is confident that there will be more cooperation between the two countries in the future. Enditem
