RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Bruno Henrique struck a superb late goal as Flamengo kept the Brazilian Serie A title race wide open with a 2-1 victory at Botafogo on Saturday.

Marlon Freitas gifted the visitors an early opener by thumping the ball into his own net while attempting a clearance.

Victor Sa put the hosts on level terms as he pounced on a loose ball and took one touch by firing home from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Henrique restored Flamengo's lead when he combined with Leo Pereira before curling a long-range shot into the far corner 17 minutes from time.

The result leaves Flamengo third in the 20-team Serie A standings, a point behind second-placed Palmeiras.

Botafogo, who had opened up a 13-point lead over their nearest rivals in mid-August, could see their advantage cut to eight points if Palmeiras beat Corinthians on Sunday.

In other Brazilian A Serie A fixtures on Saturday, Goias were held to a goalless home draw by Internacional and Atletico Mineiro drew 1-1 at Athletico Paranaense. Enditem
