KHARTOUM -- The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said 16 civilians were killed in an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital Khartoum on Sunday.

The army said the RSF carried out "indiscriminate shelling" on Karari and Wad al-Bakhit neighborhoods in northern Omdurman, northwest of the capital city, killing 13 civilians and wounding multiple others. (Sudan-RSF-Civilian Casualties)

ALGIERS -- Devastating floods have killed eight people in western Algeria, announced the country's civil protection services on Sunday.

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi authorities on Sunday lifted a curfew imposed the day before in the ethnically mixed city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq after calm was restored there.

JERUSALEM -- Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons announced on Sunday that they would stage a hunger strike to protest a decision to cut the frequency of their family visits.

The hunger strike, which will start on Thursday, demands a reversal of the decision by Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to reduce family visits from once a month to once every two months, according to the Supreme Emergency Committee of the Prisoner National Movement.
