KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah partake in the 2023 Chinese Unity Mid-Autumn Festival Dinner, as the date for the major Chinese cultural event closes in.

The dinner, organized by the Federation of Malaysia Lim Associations on Tuesday, was also attended by Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and other officials, reported state news agency Bernama.

Sultan Abdullah participated in a ceremony to light a lantern and in the cutting of a giant mooncake as part of the festivities, the National Palace said in a statement.

"The Mid-Autumn Festival is a culturally important event for the Chinese in Malaysia, in addition to being laden with family and community elements," it said.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, has been observed by people of Chinese origin for thousands of years, usually marked by family reunions, a full moon viewing and the consumption of mooncakes. Enditem
