TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iraq on Monday transferred 14 Iranian prisoners held in the Arab state to their home country, according to Iran's Justice Ministry.

In a statement published on the ministry's website, Iranian Deputy Justice Minister for Human Rights and International Affairs Askar Jalalian said this was the seventh group of Iranian prisoners repatriated from Iraq since the implementation of a convict repatriation agreement between the two neighbors in 2011.

The prisoners, who returned through Mehran border crossing in western Iran, had been arrested in Iraq on different charges and sentenced to lengthy prison terms, Jalalian said, adding that they had been repatriated to Iran to serve the remainder of their prison terms.

Jalalian said a number of other Iranians imprisoned in Türkiye and Armenia would be repatriated soon. Enditem
