COLOMBO, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Rooftop solar panels have generated 483 million units of electricity to Sri Lanka's national grid between January and September this year, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said on Thursday.
The CEB said in a statement that the government launched the rooftop solar scheme to install panels, and electricity consumers have cooperated with the project.
The Sri Lankan government approved a proposal in August to provide solar power to 25,000 low-income households.
Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga said the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has selected 11,000 partially completed houses in 15 housing projects it implements to provide free solar power. Enditem
