LIMA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Veteran Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero has been offered the chance to extend his contract with LDU Quito for another year, the Ecuadorian club said on Saturday.
The 39-year-old has scored eight goals in 18 appearances since joining LDU Quito on a six-month deal in July. His goals played a key role in the team's triumphant Copa Sudamericana campaign, which culminated in a penalty shootout victory over Brazil's Fortaleza in the final on October 28.
"We've already presented a formal offer to Paolo Guerrero and we hope that he'll decide to stay with us," LDU Quito director Esteban Paz told FB Radio.
"We've spoken to his representatives but the person who has to decide is Paolo. Only he knows if at the age of 39 or 40 he can continue playing but we have expressed our desire for him to continue."
Guerrero is Peru's all-time leading scorer with 39 goals in 114 international appearances. His 21-year professional career has included spells at Bayern Munich, Hamburg, Corinthians and Flamengo. Enditem
