MADRID, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Bilbao continued its renewal of the contracts of key players on Thursday with the confirmation that central midfielder Mikel Vesga has extended his contract with the club until the end of June 2027.
The move secures the future of the 30-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 189 first-team appearances.
Vesga was due to be out of contract at the end of the summer, and his new deal continues the club's policy of assuring the future of its key players.
Young forward Malcolm Adu Ares renewed his contract with the club a week ago, while Spain international Nico Williams also committed his future to Athletic Club, despite interest from Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and the Premier League in signing him on a free contract at the end of the current campaign.
The news came after a late goal from young midfielder Unai Gomez saw Athletic secure a 1-0 home win over Las Palmas.
The team ended the year with 35 points from 18 games, level with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid on points. Enditem
