BUCHAREST, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Four adults and a child are confirmed dead in a fire that engulfed a guesthouse about 80 km north of Romania's capital Bucharest, local authorities said on Tuesday.

Another three individuals were reported missing in the fire that broke out Tuesday morning in Gura Vadului of Prahova County, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the flames had been put out and firefighters were still searching for victims, sources with the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Local media reported that the guesthouse caught fire during a Christmas party hosted by its owner and 26 people were inside. Eighteen of them managed to flee the fire scene, including a child and an adult who suffered burns.

Investigation is still underway, but authorities said the guesthouse had received six warnings in the past for failing to comply with fire safety regulations. Enditem
