COLOMBO, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka ruled out on Saturday a tsunami threat from the earthquake that took place in the Indian Ocean off northern Sumatra, according to the National Tsunami Early Warning Center (NTEWC).

The tsunami warning center, initially asking people in the coastal areas of the country to be vigilant, declared these areas as safe in its latest update.

In Sri Lanka, Dec. 26 has been designated as the National Safety Day to remember the victims of the deadly 2004 tsunami. Enditem
