DOHA -- The Qatari emir stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire during his meeting on Sunday with the visiting U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed the necessity of working towards an immediate ceasefire and protecting civilians, a sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid delivery into all areas of the Gaza Strip, and working to reduce the escalation to ensure stability and security in the region, reported Qatar News agency. GAZA -- Two journalists were killed and another journalist was injured on Sunday in an Israeli airstrike targeting their vehicle in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas media office.

In a statement, the office identified the two journalists as Hamza Al-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya, whose car was targeted by an Israeli bombing during their press coverage in Rafah in the far south of the Palestinian enclave. (Gaza-Journalists-Death)

TRIPOLI -- The Libyan state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) on Sunday declared a state of force majeure in the country's largest oilfield Sharara, a few days after it was shut down by protestors.

"The National Oil Corporation has declared a force majeure on the Sharara oilfield effective Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, due to its closure by protesters. The closure has resulted in the suspension of crude oil supplies from the field to the Zawiya terminal," NOC said in a statement. (Libya-Oil Field-Shutdown)

DAMASCUS -- Two members of Iran-affiliated militias were seriously injured in an attack by a suspected U.S. drone strike in the eastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zour on Sunday, a war monitor reported.

The incident happened when a suspected U.S. drone struck an alleged weapon-laden truck of Iranian-backed militias that had crossed from Iraq into Syria on the road between the town of Al-Ghbeira and Al-Hamdan airport in the eastern countryside of Deir al-Zour, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
