HANOI, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has set a target to move up in two areas in the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index by 2025, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.

The Vietnamese government expects that the tourism sector will move up at least five places in the Prioritization of Travel and Tourism index and three in the Tourist Service Infrastructure index in 2024.

A report from the World Economic Forum showed that Vietnam's tourism climbed eight places in the Travel and Tourism Development Index between 2019 and 2021, making it one of the three biggest improvers in the world.

Vietnam experienced the greatest score improvement, rising by 4.7 percent to leap from ranking 60th to 52nd on the overall index, according to the report.

Vietnam recorded 12.6 million international visitor arrivals in 2023, a 3.4-fold rise from 2022, according to the General Statistics Office.

Revenues from accommodation and dining services last year were estimated to reach 673.5 trillion Vietnamese dong (27.4 billion U.S. dollars), accounting for 10.8 percent of the Southeast Asian country's total revenues from services and retail sectors.

Vietnam has set a target to welcome 17-18 million foreign visitors in 2024, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism. Enditem
