THE HAGUE, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Ajax beat AS Roma 2-1 on Tuesday night in Amsterdam to enter the UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinals for the first time.
In Group C, Ajax needed a win to guarantee a last-eight berth. But they had a nervous and difficult start as Elisa Bartoli lifted Roma to 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute.
Ajax escaped from a bigger deficit when Bartoli headed on the cross-bar, and a few minutes later Tiny Hoekstra equalized on the stroke of halftime. The winger hit the far corner after a strong interception by Lily Yohannes.
In the final phase of the match, the result could go either way, but in the 85th minute, Roma substitute Zara Kramzar headed in an own goal to gift Ajax the final win. Enditem
