LUSAKA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The National Heroes Stadium, Zambia's ultra-modern stadium in Lusaka, the country's capital, which was designated as a national cholera center at the height of the outbreak, has no one admitted as the country continues to see a steady decline in cases, health authorities said Friday.

Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo said the facility, which at one time had more than 1,000 patients, now has no patients admitted.

"I am glad to announce that we have no patients admitted to our Heroes National treatment center. We are proud and happy of our work together and we can celebrate the lives we have saved at this center when we worked as one people with a common enemy," she said during a press briefing on the cholera situation.

She expressed happiness over the continuous reduction of cholera cases in the country with currently only 108 patients admitted in treatment facilities across the country.

She further said that the country recorded 90 new cases in the past 24 hours and one death. She commended all stakeholders for their tireless efforts to fight the disease but called for continued cooperation until the disease was eliminated.

Data show the country has recorded 19,930 cases, with 686 deaths and 19,136 recoveries since the outbreak of the waterborne disease in October last year. Enditem
