JAKARTA, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The pilot of a small cargo plane that had crashed in a deep forest in Indonesia's North Kalimantan province on Friday survived the crash while the engineer died, said local media on Sunday.

"The pilot survived and the engineer died," said Kalvin Daud Ipin, head of Binuang village where the plane crashed.

According to Ipin, the 29-year-old pilot of the Pilatus aircraft, Muhammad Yusuf Yusandikan Katohe, was found alive in safe condition while the engineer Deni Sobali, aged 35, was confirmed dead. Both now have been evacuated to Jusuf SK Hospital in Tarakan town in the province by the local search and rescue team.

Ipin, who also took part in the evacuation process, said that when found, the pilot looked healthy but tired.

"The pilot made a bonfire, so the smoke that was seen during the search yesterday was indeed what he made," Ipin said.

"We have received information that at this time the pilot is in medical treatment and is still recovering," he added.

The plane, carrying 583 kilograms of basic necessities from Tarakan Airport to Nunukan Regency in the province, lost contact on Friday afternoon. The wreckage of the aircraft was found on Saturday evening. Enditem
