KHARTOUM, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Tuesday said it destroyed a force belonging to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Omdurman city, north of the capital Khartoum.

"Early this morning, our forces in Omdurman thwarted a desperate attempt by an RSF force to escape the cordon imposed on them by the army in the vicinity of the Al-Mulazmeen neighborhood and the area around the national radio station," the SAF said in a statement.

The SAF noted that it busted most of the fleeing force and another group that attempted to back it and seized most of their equipment and vehicles.

It stated that the army was still dealing with small RSF groups trying to escape the city, vowing to destroy the paramilitary forces anywhere in Khartoum utterly.

The RSF has not yet made any comment in this regard.

The latest development of the conflict between Sudan's warring parties came days after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on March 8.

Sudan has been mired in deadly clashes between the SAF and the RSF since April 15, 2023. Recent estimates by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs suggest that more than 13,000 people have been killed since the outbreak of the conflict. Enditem
