KABUL, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Units of counter-terrorist police have rounded up 300 pieces of weapons during a series of operations in north Afghanistan's Balkh province over the past year, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said on Sunday.

"During a series of operations, which covered the provincial capital Mazar-i-Sharif and districts in Balkh, police have discovered 300 pieces of light and heavy weapons and arrested 35 persons on the charge of keeping arms illegally," the ministry said on its X account.

The ministry did not provide more details.

The Afghan caretaker government since assuming power in August 2021 in the wake of the withdrawal of U.S.-led troops from Afghanistan has rounded up thousands of weaponry including battle tanks from across Afghanistan and warned of stern action if anyone carries arms unlawfully. Enditem
