KABUL, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Construction of 11 small water reservoir dams has begun in areas of Afghanistan's capital of Kabul, a statement of the Ministry of Energy and Water said on Thursday.
The dams will be constructed with a cost of 30 million afghanis (about 417,000 U.S. dollars) in 11 remote districts of Kabul, the statement added.
The statement said that the new dams aim to manage water better, enhance agricultural water supply and store groundwater.
Drought is considered a crucial challenge in Afghanistan. The Afghan caretaker government has been building small dams across the country to improve and store groundwater. Enditem
