DAR ES SALAAM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people died, and 12 others were injured on Wednesday morning after their bus crashed into a stationary defective truck in the Singida Region of central Tanzania, an official said.

Suleiman Mwenda, the Iramba District commissioner, told Xinhua by telephone that the bus, traveling from the port city of Dar es Salaam to the northern city of Mwanza, hit the truck at 4:30 a.m. local time in Malendi village along the Dar es Salaam-Mwanza highway.

"The defective truck was parked along the highway with no warning signs to other motorists," he said.

Mwenda said the deceased included six men and one woman, adding that the injured passengers were taken to various hospitals. Enditem
