QUITO -- At least six people were killed and another six injured when armed assailants opened fire on revelers at a birthday party in Duran, one of Ecuador's most crime-ridden cities, local media reported Wednesday.

BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were injured on Wednesday in an attack by the Islamic State (IS) militants on a military base in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, a security source said.

The attack occurred in the evening when IS militants launched a raid on the base near the town of Dibis, northwest of the namesake provincial capital of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Aysar Ibrahim from the media office of Kirkuk's Provincial Police Command told Xinhua. BEIRUT -- A Syrian was killed and two others sustained injuries on Wednesday in an Israeli strike on the Mansouri Plain in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources said.
